These coloring sheets were collected after our "Markoon" installation for MainX24. We hope you enjoy.
With special thanks to Angeleah for the beautifully colored "Grin-ade". We would love to thank the other artists, but we weren't given any names.
Until next time.
The Markoon is a photo of Mark Fiddler from Strung Like a Horse, with the TN state animal as a face (raccoon). Make sure to see it in person before we have to remove it...
In conjunction with NormalPalooza, and the fundraising efforts for the Normal Park Upper School, PPRWRK had the opportunity to install art on yet another school. We installed Mary's most recent mural, a 12 foot tall owl, that my mother Sheila Ruiz named Norm (Norm-Owl), on the south facing wall. The owl will fly on Normal Park for as long as the weather will allow it. I hear some buzz about it possibly being painted..? Keep an eye out when your on Mississippi Ave for this beauty.
Replacing the once John D'd wall on the back side of Jj's Bohemia in Chattanooga TN, we installed a photo of local band Glowing Bordis. The photo was taken at Rhythm & Brews in 2010, and features TJ Greever on guitar in the foreground, and Danimal Pinson on bass in the background. To see it in person, Jj's is located at 231 MLK Blvd, in downtown Chattanooga.
Installed September 2012.
This Blue Bird stands at the corner of Forest and Frazier Ave in North Chattanooga. This soaring giant is the second of Mary's flying friends that we've installed in Chattanooga. The first was located at the corner of Lindsey St and Vine St, on the side of Chad's Records. It was similar in size and style, but had fluffier wings, and was bright yellow.
Installed September 2012
Upwards of 400 people pitched in to help with the Red Bank High School revitalization project. Their list of tasks were to paint, clean, organize, and transform 45 classrooms and several outdoor spaces in 1 week. We were commissioned to install a 12ft. tall Henry David Thoreau portrait accompanied with the quote, "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined."
Installed July 2012.
JJ's Bohemia, Chattanooga's #1 hole in the wall, has been home to some of the best shows 423BraggingRights has ever seen. For this indoor install we were commissioned to paste 8 pieces, all 4ft. tall, from multiple staple acts that have made JJ's their home. Including James Legg, Oxxen, the Features, Two Man Gentleman Band, Monotonix, How I Became the Bomb, and Daikaiju. This beautiful art still stands at 231 MLK Blvd in Chattanooga TN.
Installed May 2012.
This, our first indoor install, is located at 34 Frazier Ave in Chattanooga TN, where there is an amazing hotdog spot called GOOD DOG. Inside we installed a 2 part-er, the first is local hair legend Claudio Roley, accompanied with the words "Wie heeft mijn Frankfurter gestolen?", which when translated from Dutch is "Who stole my Frankfurter?". Then towards the back is an illustration of local superhero Harry Gellar, who is known for having donated over 100 gallons of his very rare blood type.
Installed in May 2012.
Day 8 of our installations for the 10x10 Showcase during HATCH Chattanooga Arts Week, during which we installed 14 pieces across downtown Chattanooga. These pieces are of Brian Sylvestor from Machines are People Too, Pinkie Pell from Subterranean Circus, Mary's 15ft. tall Octopus, and a portrait of local musicians Nick Dupey and Gabe Williams, both formally of Giant Tiger and many other Chattanooga bands.
Installed April 2012.
Day 5, 6, & 7 of our installations for the 10x10 Showcase during HATCH Chattanooga Arts Week, during which we installed 14 pieces across downtown Chattanooga. These photos include 3 of Mary's illustration pieces, and 3 of David's photographs. We've got a green warthog, a plug headed goose, and a fly and squirrel duo to represent Mary, and photos of my brother, of Mary, and of Nick Dupey and Gabe Sturkey, a couple of Chattanooga Rock -n- Rollers.
Installed April 2012
Day 4 of our installations for the 10x10 Showcase during HATCH Chattanooga Arts Week, during which we installed 14 pieces across downtown Chattanooga. This set includes 5 installations: the Fly & Squirrel duo, the Warthog, a photo of Joel Ruiz, a photo of Caleb Young, and Mary's Plugoose. On half of these days we were gifted with help from Zach Rogers and Nicole Wynn, who were able to bring the film crew from Red Bank High School to interview and record the install.
Installed April 2012.
Day 2 & 3 of our installations for the 10x10 Showcase during HATCH Chattanooga Arts Week, during which we installed 14 pieces across downtown Chattanooga. These days we installed on the side of The Honest Pint, an 11ft. tall Nick Sturkey, drummer from Night of the Wolf, ready to rage the night away on his drum kit. We also painted Mary's giraffe on the side of Hair of the dog, and installed a leaping John Daugherty of Riot Punch on the back side of JJ's Bohemia.
Installed April 2012.
Day 1 of our installations for the 10x10 Showcase during HATCH Chattanooga Arts Week, during which we installed 14 pieces across downtown Chattanooga. We filled the first day with 4 installations throughout Chattanooga. The first, a photo of Brian Sylvester from Machines are People Too on the old Northshore Lunch building. The second, a photo of Mary installed on the west side of Brewhaus. While the third and fourth were both installed on Hair of the Dog Pub, one is Mary's illustration of a giraffe, the other is of Joshua Bennett, front man for Dolphin Mouth and Forest Magic.
Installed April 2012.
During South by South West 2012, we found ourselves living in a self-built tree house in the woods behind 'The White House Ranch', a perma-culture campground in Austin TX. While residing on the grounds, we installed one of Mary's illustrations, known as Socket Bunnies, on the flat side of 9 stacked steal drums that doubled as water collection and storage.
Installed March 2012.
In February 2012 we found ourselves subletting an apt in a legendary New York punk rock squat house humbly known as 'C-Squat'. This squatter acquired and squatter managed building housed one of the more interesting venues I've seen right in the basement. On the ceiling over the stairs to the venue, we installed Mary's illustration titled 'Fly Squatter'. We're told that it still stands strong with very minimal, if any, defacing.
Installed February 2012.
While on an East Coast tour with Brooklyn producer Eliot Lipp and BoomBox, we made a stop in Boone NC for a show at the Boone Saloon. While there we read that ASU had a legal graffiti tunnel right in the middle of campus. So without hesitation we printed, cut, and pasted photo's of Eliot Lipp and his tour drummer, 'Steve the Drummer'. One of our better impromptu art attacks.
Installed January 2012.
In the brisk of December, on the side of Chad's Records on Vine St in Chattanooga TN, we installed then painted a 12ft. tall yellow bird. (Fill in the blanks Mary).
Installed December 2011.
This 45ft. wide, 15ft. tall headache took 7 sessions to kind of complete. Every time we showed up to work again, the piece had been damaged or defaced in some unsightly way. By the end of it, the art haters stood from the roof, and poured paint down the walls, ultimately sealing the arts' fate and ruining the sidewalk. The photo used is from DexFest 2011, it's of Dave Castaneda squirting a water gun into Ian Assmusen, of RoboSapien's, mouth. Then accompanied with the urban dictionary definition for the word 'Swag'.
Installed December 2011.
This love letter disguised as street art was designed and installed as a gift from me to Mary. The photos are of Mary and myself, Mary's piece reads, "She's a little bit Country", while mine reads, "I'm a little bit Rock-n-Roll". These pieces were installed on an unused grocery on Cherokee Blvd in North Chattanooga.
Installed November 2011.
